Ms. Britt Thorpe was born in Los Angeles
and spent much of her early schooling years in Phoenix, Arizona. Pining for the sea, she moved back to California to attend and graduate from U.C. Berkeley with a B.A. in geography
in 1993. Next, she worked in finance in the city of San Francisco and film in Los Angeles before joining the world of education and receiving her California teaching credential in the late 90s. Her teaching experience runs the gamut from Montessori to grade 8. Ms. Thorpe earned a master’s degree in geography from the University
of Oregon, Eugene where she attended on a fellowship. Ms. Thorpe’s
teaching accomplishments include a nomination for Idaho Environmental
Teacher of the Year and an award for outstanding parent communication.
She was also the recipient of numerous grants for her geography and
environmental science programming. In 2009, she adopted a baby daughter from Ethiopia, which fundamentally changed her life for the better. Currently, Ms. Thorpe is pursuing a technology integration certificate with COETAIL and is enjoying that immensely. She feels privileged to have visited over 50 countries and thanks her grandparents for getting her started at age 6. She thanks her parents for the constant love and encouragement that she felt and still feels. And, she thanks Almaz for her constant hugs and kisses.
